War for Athelay

War for Athelay is a turn-based strategy game where you send units into procedurally generated arenas to fight enemy units. We are planning to release the game on PC in mid 2020.


Main Features

  • 7-8 units each with their own look and playstyle, including unique special abilities.
  • Hex based arenas with different terrain, elevation, weather, and environmental elements that impact strategy.
  • Rogue-lite system including procedurally generated arenas, random units, and unit permadeath.
  • RPG elements including gaining experience, leveling your units, and obtaining new abilities.
  • City locations where you can enlist new units, purchase items, and allow your units to rest and recharge.
  • Maintain your unit’s happiness to make sure they are giving it their all in battle.
  • Units can be sent out on quests to receive rewards.
  • Put your mind to the test in this turn-based strategy game and defeat the enemy units.

Public Alpha Release
October 2019
  • Random map generation
  • 8 Unit classes created, each with their own abilities and advantages
  • Progression through the game including multiple cities, arenas, and a boss
Main Game Completed
4-6 months
  • Multiple worlds with different looks and feels
  • Quest system to obtain rewards
  • Towns, turrets, and other special tiles you can interact with in arenas
  • Unit happiness system and personality traits to make each unit different
Polish and Game Release
2-3 months
  • Add remaining unit abilities, items, and traits
  • Polishing the UI and fleshing out the game settings
  • Game balance changes
Currently we believe we have completed around 60% of the game and think we will have core development completed within the next six months.
